To enable audio support, use a kernel which includes ALSA and your sound card's driver. If this driver is compiled as a module, you might want to install alsa-utils and run alsaconf (as root).

Remember to add your user to the "audio" group. Otherwise, the user might not be able to run 'alsamixer'.
